6.00 AM

Wake up

During the summer I like to get to the gym early. I go to a group fitness class because I find them the most motivating. After breakfast I sit down at my desk at home – fitting the gym in the morning is one perk of working remotely!

8.30 AM

Market morning markets update

I tune in to the Monday morning markets update where I hear from our economic & research team, receive intel on markets and other updates from across the business. This is a great way to start the week informed!

9.00 AM

Weekly stand-up for a sustainability strategy project

I have a weekly stand-up for a project around the bank's strategy in environmental sustainability. During this meeting, we discuss the tasks for the week and how to coordinate other meetings that come up and any roadblocks to getting things done.

9.30 AM

Action items from the stand-up

We are putting together a presentation and collating financials for new initiatives and this requires a lot of organisation and admin! I spend the next hour organising working groups and sending lots of emails to project stakeholders.

10.30 AM

Working on a research pack

As part of the Industry and Innovation team, I work on a number of research papers scanning publicly available information on a particular topic. For example, this morning I’m researching market trends in the digital assets and currencies space. Sometimes it takes some digging to find this information.

12.30 PM

The weekly team stand up

This meeting starts with a “round the grounds” with my team to discuss priorities for the week, any tasks in the backlog and any blockers to getting things done. Usually, we fit in a social chat over teams which is great when you’re working virtually.

1.00 PM

Lunch

Turlough Crowe lunch

Today I head out to buy my lunch to break up the day. This is a nice way to get away from my screen for half an hour and breath in some fresh air!

1.30 PM

Answering emails

I receive multiple messages and emails throughout the day so I regularly pause to respond and make sure I answer any important questions.

2.00 PM

Back to the research paper

I come back to my earlier piece of work writing a research paper for the Industry and Innovation team.

3.00 PM

Knowledge committee meeting

I’m part of the graduate knowledge committee or, “Knowcomm”. This committee organises communication and events for the graduate cohort for development and intellectual interest. For example, we have planned events exploring how you can advance your career through emotional intelligence and organised discussions about the fundamentals of banking.

4.00 PM

Start on a data insights pack

I run customer data through excel and perform some modelling to draw out insights that I think might be relevant for the business at hand. This usually involves some googling to find excel hacks or messaging a fellow grad on teams for some tips! I then have to consider how to present these insights to the customer.

6.00 PM

Logging off for the day and making dinner

I switch off my computer and start making dinner. Tonight I’m making a stew for myself and my housemate. We sit down and have dinner together and end the day unwinding around the table!
