6.30 AM

Rise and shine!

I start the day off with yoga and a sauna at Les Mills gym. Morning exercise always helps me kickstart the day with energy and focus, so I set aside an hour before work to take care of my personal health and wellbeing. It’s a bonus that my gym membership has been discounted through Aurecon’s ‘Health & Wellbeing Benefits’ for employees.

Time for work!

I stroll to work along the Wellington waterfront and scrub up in the office showers. Once dressed, I make myself a cappuccino, grab a piece of fruit from the communal fruit bowl and head to my locker to retrieve my stationery. My team is currently trialling hot desking so I choose to set up my laptop near the window where I can look out over the city.

Meeting time!

The Wellington Transport team gathers weekly in an office meeting room to discuss ideas and share project information in a comfortable and collaborative environment. I choose to open and close the meeting with a karakia (Māori prayer or incantation), knowing Aurecon is accepting of my culture and is willing to embrace diversity.

10.00 AM

Off to site!

For the last year, I have been providing environmental management advice for a housing development site in Wellington. I change into my steel-capped boots and hi-viz and head down to the site in the company pool car. During the earthworks phase, I have been visiting the site weekly to answer any contractor questions and to ensure work is being carried out in accordance with engineer plans.
It’s a beautiful sunny day and I thoroughly enjoy the balance of office and outdoor field work.

12.30 PM

Lunch time!

I head back to the office and grab a donburi bowl from the food court next door. The office is conveniently placed in the heart of Wellington city, so I like to try new dishes from the numerous food stalls that surround our office. I join colleagues for lunch and a newspaper quiz in the office kitchen - 8/10 in the quiz today… not bad.

1.30 PM

Emerging Professionals Network!

After lunch, I dash to another meeting room for a Limelight committee meeting. Limelight is Aurecon’s network for emerging professionals (EP’s) which supports the development of employees from graduate through to intermediate level. As committee members, we have been planning a range of social and professional development events to ensure EP’s stay connected within the business. On the cards for the month – a boat party, ‘lunch & learn with a senior’ and volunteering at Zealandia ecosanctuary (using the ‘Volunteer Leave’ that employees are entitled to).

2.30 PM

Type-ity type, type, type!

I spend some time at my desk writing up Contaminated Land Management reports and tick off the learning development tasks I have on my agenda. I’ve found that communication with my team is important when report writing, and I like to call seniors on Teams for advice and guidance where required.

4.30 PM

Massage time!

The company masseuse is in the office today and I have booked in for a half hour neck and shoulder massage to end the day. Just what I needed! The masseuse pops in to the once a month, so I try to take advantage of these services and the perks that Aurecon offers.

5.00 PM

Flexibility!

I stroll home to my apartment which is only a 10-minute walk from the office. I grab a glass of cold lemonade and plant myself on the sofa to glance over tomorrow’s agenda on my company mobile. Most of my scheduled meetings for the next day are online, so I plan to take full advantage of Aurecon’s flexible working policy and work from the comfort of my home office tomorrow.

6.00 PM

Relax!

I like to focus on my personal hobbies outside of work hours, so I head outdoors for a run, whip up a nutritious dinner and find a comfortable spot in the sun to unwind and read a book. My workday has been diverse and exciting and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the week has in store!
