The icare story
As one of Australia’s largest insurance providers with more than $32 billion in assets across its schemes, icare supports the NSW community.

icare was formed in September 2015 under the State Insurance & Care Governance Act 2015 and is home to all of the NSW Government’s insurance and care schemes. While the organisation itself may only be 2 years old, iCare has inherited decades of history insuring and supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the community and their families.

icare operates as a Public Financial Corporation governed by an independent Board of Directors. The Board  is directly accountable to the Hon. Dominic Perrottet MP, NSW Treasurer.

The culture
icare is working to establish itself as an organisation where ‘accessibility is a given’ and ‘flexible work and reasonable adjustments [for employees with a disability]’ are embedded in the culture. 2017 saw the roll-out of a three-year diversity and inclusion strategy, which includes a specific Disability Inclusion Action Plan and Multicultural Plan.

icare has also set strong goals for the recruitment and promotion of women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities.

icare is a member of the Diversity Council of Australia. Staff participate in a range of diversity events including the Festival of People, Harmony Day and International Women’s Day.

Social contribution
icare employees work on initiatives and programs that make a tangible difference to the lives of injured workers, their employers and their communities. In 2016, icare launched the icare Foundation, a $100 million investment in research, innovation and scale initiatives designed to make a real difference to the mental and physical wellbeing of NSW. In the last year, the icare Foundation has provided funding to a number of innovative healthcare organisations, including Everymind, SCIA’s Neuromoves and Craig’s Table NSW. iCare also partners with the Australian Paralympic Committee and is a stakeholder in Sargood on Collaroy.

From the Employer

Who are we and what do we do?

icare was established in 2015 to deliver insurance and care services to the people of New South Wales. We protect, insure and care for:

  • injured workers
  • severely injured road users
  • employers
  • builders and homeowners.

When someone is severely injured in the workplace or on the road we support their long-term care needs to improve their quality of life. We work with each person individually to achieve the best outcome for them. And, where possible, we help them return to work.

We also insure public buildings and landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Although we’re one of the largest general insurance providers in Australia, we’ve got a vibrant, accepting culture and we think like a start-up. We’re redesigning what we do and how we do it to put our customers front and centre. We focus on the person, not the process.

We truly care about our customers – we’re there to support them in whatever way we can. With empathy. Always.

Working at icare

Working at icare is fast-paced, creative and fun. Although the nature of our business is serious, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We thrive on new ideas, design thinking and adapting to change.

A commercial mind and a social heart is at the core of everything we do.  It’s part of our DNA. We operate with commercial savvy in a smart and efficient way – we’re always looking for ways to do things better.

We value our people, their life experience, their compassion and their abilities. We want them to be bold and task risks, to break the mould and make their mark – and to do it with integrity, courage, accountability, respect and empathy.
