The Novartis Story

As a leading global medicines company, we use innovative science and digital technologies to create transformative treatments in areas of great medical need. In our quest to find new medicines, we consistently rank among the world’s top companies investing in research and development.

Our products reach nearly 799 million people globally and we are finding innovative ways to expand access to our latest treatments. And while we’re proud of that, in this world of digital and technological transformation, we must also ask ourselves this: How can we continue to improve and extend even more people’s lives?

We believe the answers are found when curious, courageous and collaborative people are empowered to ask new questions, make bolder decisions and take smarter risks.

We have around 108,000 associates, of more than 140 nationalities, working at Novartis around the world. Novartis has more than 60 years’ history in Australia and employs around 600 associates across its divisions here locally.

Our culture is defined by our values. They help guide the choices we make every day; they define our culture, together with our high ethical standards, and help us execute the Novartis strategy.

We are passionate about what we do and the impact we have on patients and associates. Novartis is where you can be a high performing professional, armed with the knowledge that we are improving the quality of life for patients through breakthrough science and innovation.
We are Novartis and we are reimagining medicine.

Culture & vibe

Strong values define our culture and help us execute the Novartis strategy in line with our mission and vision.

We have introduced Values and Behaviors that describe the professional behaviors we expect from our employees. These values were selected by the Executive Committee of Novartis – with input from associates worldwide – and form an integral part of the framework we use to recruit people, develop them and assess and reward their performance. We will hold ourselves to account against these values and behaviors.

These values and behaviors are Innovation by experimenting and delivering solutions. Quality by taking pride in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. Collaboration by championing high performing teams with diversity and inclusion. Performance by prioritizing and making things happen with urgency. Courage by speaking up, giving and receiving feedback. Integrity by advocating and applying high ethical standards every day

  • Complete an online application form

This helps us capture information about your skills, background, and experiences. We want to hear why you are the right fit for us! Make sure you check to see that you are eligible for the program and share relevant details with us as well as your motivation for applying!

  • Online assessments

This stage of the recruitment process helps us understand more about who you are, not just your skills but your preferred ways of working. The results from this assessment will help us work with you to build a development plan and frame the learning opportunities in the graduate program.

  • Video interview

The video interview is an online interview where you will record your responses to a range of questions for us to view. It allows us to get a better understanding of who you are and your communication style. We will also be looking for several competencies that we want to see in our graduates and that are important to us!

  • Assessment Centre and Interview

The Assessment Centre gives us the chance to meet you and an opportunity for you to interact directly with us! You will participate in a range of activities during the session, but most importantly, this is an opportunity for you to learn more about Novartis as a company, see who you would be working with and gain a stronger understanding of what your day to day could look like at Novartis.

Talented teams, performance-based compensation

The success of Novartis depends on the performance and dedication of our Group company associates. We strive to be an employer of choice that attracts, retains and motivates talented and performance-driven people in our affiliates around the world.

Each associate is given a fixed salary based on job characteristics, market competitiveness and the associate’s skills. Salary growth depends on the associate's individual performance and level compared to the benchmark.

Novartis benefits programs are an integral part of the total compensation policy and strategy and are designed to meet the challenges of the growing, global competition for talent. These programs support the overall business objectives and strategy of Novartis. Benefits are aligned with local legislation and practices in each country and are established to provide a framework of security for associates.

Novartis offers associates competitive compensation and benefits. We believe that a high performance culture attracts, retains and motivates the best in class talent.

In Australia we offer our associates a range of benefits. This includes access to health and lifestyle services like corporate health cover programs, gym membership and access to fitness and corporate superannuation options. We also support our associates through parental leave programs, salary continuance insurance benefits and access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

I love seeing a novel idea turn from science-fiction into reality. There are very intelligent researchers working tirelessly on concepts that may or may not be successful, and it’s such a privilege to bring their work to clinicians where it can change the lives of patients.

You might not have any idea what you want to do yet or where you’ll be in five year’s time (I didn’t) and that’s completely ok! Try not to stress about sorting out your life immediately after university; everything will work out!
