Eliza Wright-Smith

I’ve learnt to challenge myself each day and be okay with failure, as the key is to tackle the uncertainty with structure and practicality. Every opportunity is a good opportunity, so it’s important to take them all!

A native of the Gold Coast, Eliza joined our ANZ team in February of 2021, after beginning her career path through roles at Deutsche Bank and QIC while pursuing a Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics at the University of Queensland.

Tell us a bit about you – what were you doing before joining Partners in Performance?

I am originally from the Gold Coast but moved to Brisbane to study a Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics at the University of Queensland. During my university studies, I worked at the Queensland Investment Corporation and completed a summer internship at Deutsche Bank as an investment banking analyst.

What led you to a career in management consulting?

I was drawn to management consulting as I wanted to be challenged every day. The thought of always working with new people, in new industries, and solving unseen problems was one that truly excited me. I also find companies fascinating, as they are so complex and unique, and a career in management consulting enables you to truly understand how different companies operate.

How did you hear about Partners in Performance? What interested you in applying for the role?

I discovered Partners in Performance through a friend (Chloe) who is also a new starter at Partners in Performance! I want to be able to have a true impact on a client where meaningful and long-term results are ensured, and Partners in Performance stood out as a firm that prioritised this. I was also drawn to the firm for the exposure and opportunities available through travel and nationwide engagements, as well as its large global presence.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned during your time at Partners in Performance?

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt while at Partners in Performance is to give everything a go. Being thrown in at the deep end is daunting but having a go at the problem or task at hand will test your thinking and enable you to be better next time. I’ve learnt to challenge myself each day and be okay with failure, as the key is to tackle the uncertainty with structure and practicality. Every opportunity is a good opportunity, so it’s important to take them all!

I feel that consulting will test your critical thinking and put you outside of your comfort zone, ultimately heightening your communication skills and creative thinking.

What unique quality do you see in everyone you work alongside?

Everyone I work with is so clever and driven. The people here all have a true passion for what they do, and it blows me away every day. You will also find that everyone cares about your self-development, and they are always willing to set time aside to show you the ropes.
