Culture at REA Group

9.1
9.1 rating for Culture, based on 16 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Everyone is willing to socialise, at events small or large, which are held frequently. There are strong communities, interest groups, and clubs. Coffee catch-ups across the business are regular and fun.

The main reason I'm here is because of the culture. Hierarchy isn't reallllly a thing outside of role titles, especially coming in as a grad you aren't exposed to that environment. Collaboration and co-op is huge, and facilitated really well by the design of the office + infrastructure set for working from home. Socialising, I think, is brilliant if you're a social person. Lots of events, lots of games, lots of Friday night drinks/social lunches and celebrations.

The company has two distinct cultures - one at a team level and the other at the broader company level. These are not always well aligned. Most teams are reasonably social at work, and a large share of these like to continue that trend outside of work. People are almost entirely helpful, honest and kind. Within the grad program specifically, former graduates are always present for support and assistance, and each cohort of graduates tends to be reasonably close-knit. At the company and management level, the culture is less comfortable. There is a drive towards monetary success and this can clash with the interests of the users of products. The company also does not give emphasis to transparency and accountability, which often makes giving feedback difficult and disincentivises doing so. Upper management keeps regular streams of communication open, but has a tendency to deflect from important issues. Company-wide events such as hack days and other innovation-centric programs have been cut back gradually and the company has taken a shift towards a more corporate structure and tone.

Great culture. Super inclusive and dynamic. There are a lot of interest groups and guilds, as well as social and team bonding activities. I think it is a good environment for collaborating and learning from experienced software engineers.

Before covid REA's culture was lively and there were lots of events and celebrations that would take place during business hours. There are also formal social fortnightly after hours events and less formal. Good culture around grabbing a drink after work somewhere in Richmond etc.

Highly collaborative, big on life outside work. Senior execs are accessible.

REA Group's culture is great. In terms of structure, REA is broken down into what we call Groups who look after certain aspects of the company. Within these groups, we have tribes which are more focused. Then finally we have our squads, the people we work with on a day to day. REA Group is big on culture, they encourage events within squads, tribes and groups and colleagues are always keen for a drink after work on a Friday.

in the office - culture is very supportive and encourages learning, very social as well. Between lockdowns plenty of events to socialise with colleagues - during lockdown all work online so a bit harder but overall still good and there are still attempts to socialise online. after hours typically you are not working, good work/life balance.

We have a social meeting once a fortnight. When we are in the office we go to lunch and play board games. There is no clear hierarchy among ourselves People are very happy to help one another

During hours, very positive flexible, teamwork is encouraged through pair programming and working through problems together. Socialising is recognised as important (but difficult in covid/zoom age). One thing that could be better is the culture at the executive level, sometimes feels like they are sitting in their own bubble

Good culture with good people
