A Day in the Life at RSM Australia

  • Day in the life

Jyoti George

Each day at RSM is different. As a grad within the Audit division, we are given the opportunities to work on different sections of an audit for different clients. This ensures that each day is interesting, we are constantly learning, and improving our skills.

Today, I begin working on the second entity for FS. This involves reviewing the scope of the review and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) policy so I can prepare the Request for Information (RFI) list and agenda for the walkthrough.

To wrap up the day, I went through the review points that a manager provided for another company tax return that I had prepared. After updating all the files for the relevant adjustments, I send the document back to the manager for them to approve and pass it on to the Partner for final approval.

After dropping off, I head to work. I’m usually in by 8, which means it's time for toast and a cup of tea. While I enjoy this, I chat with our other early birds and set myself up at my desk. I sort through emails and write out an agenda for my day, which helps me stay on track and lets me know if I need to hunt for more work!

It’s time to get back into it! I have a phone call with one of our Canberra Office Principals, Andrew, to discuss a client’s individual tax return that I have prepared. We also go through my list of client queries from another financial statement I prepared and I update him on today’s work.

I spent a little bit of time catching up on any emails I received throughout the morning before jumping on LinkedIn to interact with posts, reading articles and catch up on news. My next port of call was insolvency news online and the RSM site to check up on any exciting happenings before I get back to doing work.

After getting to work and catching up with some of the offices, I start my computer and make sure my plants are still alive. As a Business Advisory Grad my main responsibilities include preparing financial statements and tax returns for clients.
